Artificial Intelligence was the main subject of The North Summit, an annual event of Compass UOL that brought together clients in Boston, USA, in partnership with AWS. One of the main voices in technology today, American futurist Amy Webb, was the special guest of the event and provided a critical overview of the next steps of AI, especially in the area of generative artificial intelligence, addressing the opportunities and risks in development. “What will happen is in the hands of those who are building the world now,” said Webb. With the participation of Invillia, as well as other companies in the group – edge.uol, AvenueCode, Edgy, Everymind, C/T, and WebJump – Compass UOL launched its own AI tool, the AI Cockpit. The solution was designed to improve developer performance, ensuring that important information is available to the management team for better strategic decisions. Clients such as Pepsico, Track&Field, and Mastercard, among others, participated in panels and presented their innovations.
Next, we will discuss a little about what was discussed in each of the topics so you can stay updated:
Agility, Efficiency, and Optimization
On stage: Citrus Advertising, Toyota, Black Hawk, Mastercard, Caliber, Picpay.
In this panel, one of the fundamental uses of AI pointed out is to know your consumer and the industry in which you operate to understand what is possible or not to do and also for which questions specialized partners will be necessary. Ensuring:
- scalability;
- data to be the basis of every strategic decision;
- better visibility of trends to identify which choices to make.
They also discussed the fact that agility means innovation, which returns to the biggest concern of all: “who is your consumer, their needs, and how to meet them.”
AI Redefining the Way we Live and learn
On stage: Pepsico, Nestlé, Compass UOL.
In the panel, they brought a vision of how AI has helped to simplify complex tasks, reducing time and costs. In addition, facing an increasingly connected and demanding consumer regarding optimization, they highlighted that AI has been an essential piece to understand the public, their needs, and, with that, make companies more efficient.
They also commented on what has been considered as a negative side of AI, which is the substitution of jobs and its misuse (in terms of permission of image or veracity), something that, according to what was concluded in the conversation, are fears that have been part of the technological circle for decades (appearing with each new technology), but that evolve as the segment expands.
As a way of ensuring the correct use of this tool (in relation to ethics), a point brought by them was that companies that use the tool the most can provide guidelines and ensure that the new generation of professionals is taught correctly about risks and benefits.
As examples of AI application, they indicated:
- greater accuracy in product manufacturing processes (improving quality and adapting even more to consumer demands);
- better resource management, such as water and energy – thus driving sustainability factors;
- agility in agriculture and obtaining raw materials;
- boosting the merchandising of online and physical stores;
- ensuring predictability and anticipating risks;
- product and service personalization (considering greater knowledge about the consumer/public).
In the panel, the new solution of Compass Uol, AI Cockpit, was also addressed. It was explained that the tool was designed to improve developer performance and deliver any project that the client needs. Thus, the company aims to ensure that important information is available to the management team and that it is also possible to monitor the workforce in each initiative.
Finally, they concluded that the market has not yet fully captured the potential of AI, but is in the process of understanding its real potential. In the very near future, it will not only be ChatGPT, but every company will have its own AI interface/tool.
The futures of generative AI
On stage: Amy Webb.
During the panel, the futurist indicated that both the market and people in general need to broaden their view of the potential of artificial intelligence. For now, in her view, the discussions are still very extreme – either by the side of total success (with life integrated with robots) or by the “replacement” of humans by technology.
In this context, Amy comments that it is impossible to predict the future of technology. The reason for this is that it is not easy to see the changes in real time – especially in a context where leaders need to become experts in new technologies overnight.
Even so, she points out that there is the option of following some steps that help in this definition: observing what is influencing the future / based on this, thinking about the options that can be “the futures” / within these scenarios, defining what best fits your reality.
As trends (what is influencing the future), she highlighted digital twins, extended reality, and generative AI. Specifically about the latter, she stated that it is already a reality and is one step away from becoming a norm, being a tool that depends on the choices of humans to succeed or not.
In view of this panorama, she concludes that the decision about what will prevail is in the hands of those who are building the world now.
Tech Reshaped: trends and changes for 2023
On stage: Trigger, Adobe, Fiagril, WebJump.
Among the trends pointed out in the panel is the customization of services for each customer, regardless of the channel and at any time – something that had previously been identified as one of the main benefits of AI.
Another point emphasized was to have technologies available in the market that help the company better understand its own business and the desires of the public. What helps in this journey, according to what was pointed out by them, is to have a clear view of the data and processes of the company (from infrastructure to development).
AI has played a fundamental role in this, whether in the B2B segment (to predict, for example, which machines need maintenance before they have any problems) or in B2C – where it is possible to make technology interact with those in front of the devices’ cameras, such as in the case of app filters.
Regarding AI, another point highlighted in the panel was the time savings that the tool allows. Tasks that used to take hours can now be done in seconds, allowing the team to focus on more strategic issues. In addition, they emphasized the benefit that, with the use of this technology, it is easier to understand the world around us – both in terms of market issues (such as pricing) and the interests of the public.
Compass Uol, Invillia, and all other companies in the group are always in constant renewal to lead a disruption in the technology market. According to Rockenbach, CEO of the Group, one of the main aspects is the launch of their AI Assisted Software Engineering tool: AI Cockpit.
