We asked Monique Rossomano to tell in 4 photos, 1 video and a story, what connects her day. From breakfast to computer shut-down. Showing in practice what it is like to work in our flexible and distributed model, but always close. Routine, interactions, work-life balance. The result is a testimony about how her life changed to Chile but she continued to do what she loves most side by side with Invillia and discovering new passions.
Check it out, let yourself be inspired_
Hi 🙂
First, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Monique, I was born in Araraquara, in the interior of São Paulo and currently I live in Iquique, a northernmost city in Chile. Libran, consequently indecisive and very sensitive. I’ve been working as a designer on Invillia’s marketing team for almost four years. As a good mortal, I love watching movies, reading, cooking (as long as I don’t have to do the dishes later) and I recently discovered that I love running too.
The change
I moved to Chile two years ago. Establishing a routine was not such an easy process for me, especially in the beginning, since I was in contact with another culture, customs and many other things to be assimilated and learned. But today, I finally got a “formula” to have cooler day-to-day.
The race
My day starts around 6 am. As soon as I wake up I’m ready to run. I always leave my gym clothes separated on the floor, close to the bed, so I can look at them as soon as I wake up and not give up (especially on days of extreme laziness). I run between 3 and 5 km, depending on the day. During the race, I like to think about how my day will be, what I will do at work, what I will prepare for lunch, etc. Organizing myself mentally. And there are also days I find in the race a method of clearing my thoughts, a moment just to listen to those songs that I like the most.
The connection
I get home, take a shower and get ready. And what a nice thing to have a nice breakfast, isn’t it? Lately, I’m in the vibe of eating toast with scrambled eggs and having a glass of soy milk, I haven’t gotten sick yet haha. After my breakfast I start preparing for a day at work, I turn on the computer around 8 am and 8:30 am, and I start to open everything that is necessary to start another day, Instation, my tabs on the browser, one to listen to music, another to check my e-mails and another where my tasks are concentrated.
At 9 am I have an alignment with my team. My team is formed by João, who lives in São Paulo; Pedro, who lives in Araraquara; and soon Maynara, who is arriving on the team. There is also the “boss”, André, who lives in Porto (Portugal) – but the meeting with him is only later haha. Everything aligned, hands-on!
During my working day I also exchange messages with my friend Guilherme, who works as a designer on the People team, we have the habit of recommending songs to each other. Sometimes he tells me some boring songs, but that’s okay hahaha, it’s like we’re side by side, despite the distance.
The bear hug
My workday ends around 5:00 pm / 5:30 pm, which is the time when Matheus (my guy) also arrives from work. As soon as he enters the house he gives me a bear hug and we talk about our day, from the high points to the low. I also call my mother to find out how things are going there (she lives in Araraquara) and how her day went, as well as the rest of my family. We talk almost every day around that time.
The smell of the sea
Last year I found out that here in Iquique, the city hall provides everyone with some free physical activities on the beach, like zumba and ubound. I tried to do zumba, but the pace of Chileans is a little slower than ours, so I went ubound (I think in Brazil it is better known as jump). I enjoyed doing ubound so much that I inserted it into my routine, every Tuesday and Thursday, around 7 pm, I’m there jumping on a trampoline for an hour.
Around 8:10 pm I’m already home again, for the last leg of the day, take a shower and have dinner! When I don’t go to ubound classes I usually make dinner neater, like yesterday, we dine on a baked salmon with butter broccoli, tomato salad and mashed potato.
I end my day with a good cup of tea and some reading, in order to calm my brain hahaha, I am currently reading Anne de Avonlea.
