We asked Aline Oliveira, UX / UI at Invillia, to tell in four photos and a story, what connects her day. From breakfast to computer shut-down. Showing in practice what it is like to work and live in our distributed model, but always close. Routine, interactions, work-life balance. The result is a genuine and intimate testimony about her experience, which includes a total career change at age 35. An inspiration.

Starting at the beginning, presentations ?
I’m Aline, 36 years old, born in Monte Santo de Minas / MG. I have lived in Campinas / SP for 15 years. I am UX / UI at Invillia, where I am proud to belong. But this is a conversation that I will talk about later.
To my surprise and happiness, I was appointed (by one of the most talented professionals I had the honor of working with) for having an inspirational attitude towards the teams in which I worked. Some people always ask me about my day, how I organize myself and how my mental and emotional state directly impacts the way I relate to people.
I am very shy and it is challenging to talk about habits and small daily actions, which help me deal with the diversity and beauty of this crazy thing called life. Far from wanting to bring truths, I will tell you a little bit of what works for me.
No rules. No comparisons.
At 6:30 am my alarm clock rings and there comes Francisco, all gangly and with little rashes in the eyes filling me with kisses. It already makes a difference in my day. Francisco, an 8-year-old Shar-pei, full of wrinkles, which has nothing to do with worry. After a walk with him around the condo, I have a good cup of strong coffee and do 10 minutes of meditation. I feel the negative impact too much when, for some reason, I need to start working immediately after waking up.
I have flexible working hours. As I am passionate about mornings, I prefer to start my day very early. At 7:30 am I start working as a UX / UI designer on 2 very inspiring projects. Let Clinic and UOL app.
Two teams, two partners, two different projects. Quite a challenge. Who doesn’t like challenges, right? Yeah, I didn’t always like it. I’m insecure. The moment I was asked to take on a second project, I was sweaty cold, my cheeks were pink with nerves, icy fingertips. In a split second, a story of failure passed through my head and I immediately thought, “If there is at least one person in the world who can do this, anyone can do it.” Based on this assumption, I accepted it as an opportunity, and today I am here learning a lot and sharing every day with you.
As a practitioner of intermittent fasting, I have lunch around 1 pm and use some of that time to exercise. My body asks for it, it’s amazing how a moment of bodily need for physical activities arrives, we feel the change, everything flows and improves. I do simple things, jump rope, do sit-ups or a quick hiit workout, and after activities, I go to lunch. Hum, I confess: I don’t like cooking, because I live alone, and I wouldn’t like to use my time cooking, after all, it’s something I don’t like to do and I would probably eat badly. So, I opted to buy fitness lunch boxes, without preservatives, with plenty of vegetables and protein. I like to eat well, a balanced diet influences the proper functioning of the mind. When it comes to the psyche, it was my enemy for a long time. I had panic syndrome and treated myself for 4 difficult years. Since I was young I already had clear signs of anxiety and fear. When left untreated, there is a high chance that we will be an adult with an emotional disorder. Today I am great, I found in meditation, Yoga, friends, work, reading, existential pleasure.
I am not a motivational optimist, I consider myself a practitioner of Stoicism. I bring with me the philosophy that we cannot control what happens, but we can control how we react to facts.
I cannot change the world, but I can change myself. It is not easy, it is training, seeing something positive in negative things is not a task acquired suddenly. It is necessary to have self-control, balance and perspicacity.
Because I take life in a lighter way, I was invited to talk a little bit about myself. Since, in some way, I had a positive impact on people in my social environment.
Finally, at 16:30 I give a goodbye to my teams.
And then?
After turning off my note, I take care of myself. I do at least 1 hour of Yoga practice, walk with Francisco, run, study something related to technology, or read a book, walk with my friends and family, and finally, I watch TV. But there are days that I just want to sit somewhere in the condo with my neighbors and have some nice cold beers. After all, beer is beer. Cheers!
My day is always very active and productive. I have several tasks at work and still take care of my body and mind. It would be unlikely to be able to do all this, and still sleep, having to face the stress and time that traffic consumes. I feel fulfilled for working in a company that has as its main values transparency and the professional and personal development of its employees.
IT career
I was a graphic designer at an Advertising agency, in the last job I worked as a creative coordinator and project manager.
At 35 I decided to change my area. I studied, I dedicated myself, I went after the right people and, soon the opportunity arose: Invillia (At that moment I am thrilled to remember that long-awaited YES). What a sensational company to work for!
From the first day, with little experience in the area, however, with a giant desire to experience in practice all absorbed study, I was welcomed by incredible people (I cannot fail to mention my first team, Philadelphia, what a reception! What professionals! You are awesome <3).
I was really touched by the way people treat each other. Hierarchies function as a focal point for problem solving, for help/leadership and not as power. It’s all horizontal, eye to eye, tight hugs, and true #betogether.
My hiring, even before COVID-19, was already remote. As I had already worked for 7 years in this regime, I had no difficulty adapting. However, if you are reading, have any difficulties, you can rest assured, here our Agile Leader with the People Partner staff can help you.
I believe that mind and body exist in order to be used. When they are not used for a productive purpose, they can turn against you.
I hope that somehow, my day, can inspire yours.
